We know that figuring out what you want in life can be hard. As your professional journey is a big part of that, we want to help you in the best way possible. Therefore, Generations Recruitment is committed to finding you the right job and company to work for once you decided your career path. This article can already help you with the process of finding that ideal career!

Step 1: Find your passion

Before starting anything else, you should stop to take a look at yourself. More specifically, what you are passionate about or what gives you energy. A good tip for finding your passion is to look at the opposite of your weaknesses. If you struggle with working in team, for example, you might be better suited for a role where you can work more independently. If you don’t like being stuck behind a desk all day, you might want to consider jobs where you can move around a lot.

Another tip can be to look at what you do in your free time. What topics or environments are you drawn to? For example, if you like to organize events for your friends, maybe you can start a career in the event sector. If you enjoy listening to true crime podcasts, you might enjoy working for the police force. Try taking a closer look at your intrests and what you could do with them. Who knows, maybe your dream job was right in front of you all along.

Step 2: Discover what you have to offer

Of course, your career choice should not be determined by passion alone. Also look at the skills and personality traits that make you stand out from others. Regarding your skills, look further than your current job. While it is true that you learn a lot during your job, most people forget that they have other skills to bring to the table as well. Think about your educational background, things you picked up during your free time or knowledge from books you once read.

Regarding your personality traits, you can think about it yourself or ask people closest to you. They might see things that you never noticed about yourself. You could also take a personality test online. For example, Generations Recruitment offfers the G.R.A.M. to help you discover the ideal work enivronment for you at that point in your life. To make it easier on you, we also label our vacancies with the G.R.A.M. profile that aligns with the job and company culture.

Step 3: Do your own research

Please do your own thorough research before and during your job search! While you are still in the stage of finding a good career for yourself, create a list of 10 things that are important to you in a job. This can range from the company’s involvement in the environment to wanting a steady income. Doing this before your job search will help you stick to these criteria while searching for your dream job.

Don’t be afraid to dig deeper than the company website. How a company or a job is presented online might not be how they are in real life. Contact employees or people who are currently doing the position you would see yourself in. Also try to find out the pro’s and con’s of the career so you have a clear picture in your head to make an informed decision. You could also do an internship or a trial day to see if it suits you.

Step 4: Fully commit

You did your research and discovered what your dream job is, now the only thing left to do is fully commit. Go job hunting, contact recruitment agencies, come up with a short and long term career goal plan, …  A lot of people are scared to take this step but it will be worth it in the end! Finding a job that you are passionate about and pays you a decent salary at the same time, can improve your happiness a lot.
